In the early evening of April 4 year of 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. was killed by a single shot which stuck his face and neck as King was standing in the second floor of the Lorraine Motels' balcony in Memphis, Tennessee. The bullet entered thought his right cheek, breaking his jaw, then went down his spinal cord before lodging in his shoulder. The supporters toke him to the emergency room immediately. An hour later, after he had a emergency chest surgery, king was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital at 7:05 P.M. Shortly after the murder police spotted the white man name "James Earl Ray" getting inside a white Mustang and he speed away. Memphis Officers found the Bundle that contained a .30-60rifle, ammunition, a pair of binoculars, and other items. The Rifle was purchased in the city of Birmingham by a Harvey Lowmeyer, but later found out that it was one of several aliases used by Ray. James Earl Ray. He was Eventually they found him after a two-month searching deep. The killing sparked riots and demonstrations in over 100 cities across the United States. In the year 1969, Ray was found guilty of assassinating the Martin Luther King, Jr. and he was sentenced to 99 years in prison. He died in natural cause in prison on April 23,1998.
